The heart of it

πŸ›‘ The Gauntlet: one road, from Twinkle to Chopin

A step-by-step progression for pianists of every level, and everybody starts at level 1. Three pieces a level, and every piece played three times: right hand alone, left hand alone, then both together at half tempo, metronome on. Pass all three, play the level's theory game, beat the boss, and the next level opens. Level 1 is Twinkle, Mary Had a Little Lamb and Ode to Joy; by level 5 it is Chopin's waltz and Bach's prelude.

The Gauntlet screen: level 1's three pieces and their stages on the left, the game's chat on the right
Level 1, stage by stage: 1a, 1b, 1c are the pieces, 1d the theory game, 1e the boss.
The Chord Bridge, one of the theory games played between a level's pieces
The Chord Bridge, one of the games that stand between a level and the next one.
  • Hands alone first

Right hand, then left, then both at half tempo. The left hand gets a stage of its own because it is the one nobody practises alone.

  • Three pieces a level

Ordered by measured difficulty, so the next piece is always the next step and never a cliff.

  • Theory in between

The Chord Bridge, the Hand Reader, the Wrong Note Hunt or Scales & Arpeggios, before the level will close.

  • A boss at the end

A duel with a computer pianist on the level's last piece, a little faster. More accurate wins; a tie goes to you.

Free players get three Gauntlet runs a day. All-Access takes the limit off, and opens everything below.

Everything included

The free tier is the Gauntlet, three runs a day, and the chat to read along. All-Access is the rest of the game β€” and more is added every day.

What it would cost you otherwise

Say your teacher charges $60 an hour and you take a lesson a week, and say you buy two or three scores a month at $5 to $8 each. Here is that year, against this one.

Questions

What is the Gauntlet?
The game's course, and the thing most players spend their time in. One road through the repertoire: three pieces a level, each played right hand alone, then left hand alone, then both hands together at half tempo, with a music-theory game and a boss fight before the next level opens. Level 1 is Twinkle, Mary Had a Little Lamb and Ode to Joy; by level 5 it is Chopin's waltz and Bach's prelude. Everybody starts at level 1, whatever they already play.
What do I get for free?
The Gauntlet, three runs a day, and the game's chat to read along. That is the whole free tier: the rest of the game β€” Free Play, the two worlds, the mini-games, voice chat, Excalibur, Learn mode β€” is All-Access.
How does the $1 deal work?
You pay $1 today. That covers your first three months. From the fourth month it is $14.95 a month for the next twelve, so the whole fifteen months come to $180.40, which is what three hours with a teacher costs. You can cancel at any time from the game's own settings: no email, no phone call.
Is $42 the real price?
$42 a month is the list price of All-Access, and even that is about a sixth of what a lesson a week costs. The $1 for three months and the $14.95 a month for the twelve after it are a limited-time offer for the players who join now.
What happens after the twelve months?
The membership carries on at the list price, and you can cancel or come back at any time. Nothing is charged without an email first, and everything you have passed in the Gauntlet stays yours.
I was already a member. What changes?
Every member from before September 14, 2026 has All-Access for the next month, on us, with nothing to do. After that month the $1 deal is yours to take from inside the game.
Which keyboards work?
Any MIDI keyboard over USB or Bluetooth in Chrome or Edge, an acoustic piano through the microphone, or the keys drawn on the screen. All-Access does not change that; it opens what you can play.
Can I cancel?
Yes, anytime, from Settings in the game (Manage subscription). You keep All-Access until the end of the period you paid for.
What if I don't like it?
Then you get your money back. All-Access comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee: email support@musicalbasics.com and we will refund you in full.
